Edit existing PDF text and images without overlays

Use native PDFium object APIs to select and change existing text or replace image assets in your browser. Changes are written back to the original PDF content objects without uploading the file.

Changes original content objects

Text and image edits target existing PDF objects directly, without white cover boxes or newly added overlay layers.

Download, edit, and replace images

Export decoded image pixels as PNG, edit them locally, drag the result back into the editor, and write it to the same image object.

Free, open source, and local

The editor runs with open-source PDFium and browser tooling, with no paid SDK, remote API, or server-side file processing.

PDF content editing FAQ

Does this directly edit the PDF or place an overlay on it?

It directly edits existing objects through native PDFium APIs. The tool does not hide content with white boxes or add replacement text and images as new overlay layers.

Why can some PDF text not be edited directly?

Only real text objects in the PDF can be edited. Scanned pages are usually page-sized images and require OCR first. Replacement text also keeps the embedded PDF font, so unsupported characters may not render correctly.

Can I download and replace an original PDF image?

Yes. You can export an image object's decoded pixels as PNG, edit it, drag it back, and write it to the same object. The PNG is not always byte-for-byte identical to the PDF's original compressed stream.

Is my PDF uploaded while editing?

No. PDF reading, preview rendering, object editing, and result generation happen in the current browser. Document contents are not sent to RouteMarket or a third-party service.
